Our women’s only surf club has been running since 2019 and has proven to be really popular (there are over 400 members, however typically sessions are capped at 16-24 surfers)! We now run two sessions per week, one in the evenings on a weekday and one on a Sunday, usually around lunchtime. This group is for beginner’s right through to intermediates and beyond. Our aim is to give you the confidence and the opportunity to make other surfy friends and eventually form your own groups to surf without the need for our support.
Booking Process:
We organise these sessions through a whatsapp group. To be added into the group, just send us your mobile number. To book a space for a session, we will post a message in the whatsapp group a few days before and you just need to add a comment to reserve your space. We understand that everyone has busy lives so if you have to cancel last minute, that’s not a problem.
For these sessions, you can pay on the day when you arrive, cash or card. The cost is £22 per person for 1.5hours and includes board and wetsuit hire in the price.
Please check our FAQ section below or email/call us with any queries. We hope you can join us!
FAQ – Women’s Surf Club
What ability is this club for?
This is for beginners through to intermediate surfers. Usually, the group will be split into those that want to surf further out back on the green waves and those that will prefer to stay in the shallow waters catching white waves. We have ladies attend that are nervous of the sea and who just want to build their confidence and strength so please let this be an opportunity to do something you’ve always wanted to have a go at! If you are unsure if this group is suitable then feel free to contact us and we can chat about whether it is right for you or not. We will give you the option of staying on the beach for 10 minutes at the start with an instructor if you are new to surfing to go through everything you need to know or if you would like to improve on certain aspects of your pop up / surf technique. Some choose to just head straight out into the waves!
When are the sessions?
Please click on the link above to download the timetable for Summer 2022.
How do I book a space?
Send us your mobile number and we will add you to the whatsapp group. You can reserve your space for each session on there. Any questions, let us know.
How much does it cost and do you have to commit to all the sessions?
The cost is £20 per session and includes a board and wetsuit. This is a drop in session, if you want to try one session and find it is not for you, there is no pressure to regularly attend. On the other hand, if you would like to attend every week, that’s great too. We cannot block book anyone to make it fair for everyone.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring your own board / wetsuit if you have one. It is helpful to arrive with your costume on under your clothes as we have limited changing room facilities. Other than that, you will just need to bring some water, a towel and some dry clothes.
What are the ages of ladies that attend?
We have all the ages attending, from 16 up to (well we wouldn’t like to say..!). All ages are welcome!
Who will look after us, are the instructors qualified?
All surf instructors are DBS checked and have experience in first aid. The lead instructors have also undergone lead safeguarding training. All staff are qualified surf coaches.
What facilities will I have access to?
We have a portaloo toilet and a changing room on site. There is only one changing room so it is recommended to bring towels to change with.
What happens if there are adverse weather conditions and the session is cancelled?
If the beach is ‘red-flagged’ by the lifeguards on duty (usually due to storms / lightening / fog etc), or the instructors feel the conditions are too dangerous, we will cancel the session with as much warning as possible. We aim to cancel any sessions with at least 1 day notice. We will aim to give more notice but this will depend on the forecast. You will be informed on the whatsapp group if we have to cancel a session.
What equipment is included?
All equipment is included including wetsuits and surfboards. We have wetsuits for all sizes from XXS child to XXL adults. We also have surfboards for different abilities and conditions. If you have your own wetsuits and surfboards, you are welcome to bring these with you to use or if you arrive and your own equipment isn’t suitable, we will recommend something different for you to use to suit your ability and the conditions.
What are the teaching ratio’s?
The maximum ratio we work to is 1 instructor to 8 students which is in line with the governing body guidance.
