About Kids Surf Club
Every year we run a Saturday Surf Club, usually around lunchtimes for children age 8+. This year we will be running sessions on Saturday and Sunday due to demand! Sessions will run from May through to September. This is for children of all abilities from beginner to intermediate. We aim to create a safe and fun environment for them to get to know other young surfers, gain confidence in the water, learn about surfing safely and to provide them with lot’s of tips to improve their surfing technique. These sessions are always great fun and get booked up quickly. If you are not sure if this is right for your child or not then feel free to send us a message using the contact form below or directly to our email address and we can have a chat about it. Please see our FAQ section below for some extra details on what it’s all about.
Booking Process:
Please complete the Laneez 2024 registration form below online prior to the first session. You only need to complete this form once for 2024, for your child to attend any surf sessions with us including summer camp and kid’s club.
These sessions are drop-in sessions, bookable a few days before, you do not need to commit to multiple sessions. To book a space for your child, a post will go up on our facebook page ‘laneez surf centre’ at 6pm on each Thursday before the following session, you can book on a first come first served basis. When the post goes up, simply comment to reserve a space for your child. When the group is full for that weekend, the post will change to ‘fully booked’.
For these sessions, you can pay on the day, the cost is £22 for 1.5hours and includes board and wetsuit in the price.
We often have many questions about our kids surf club sessions so please check our FAQ section below.
FAQ – Weekend Kids Surf Club
What ability is this club for?
This is for beginners through to intermediate surfers. Usually, the group will be split into those that want to surf further out back on the green waves and those that will prefer to stay in the shallow waters catching white waves. If you are unsure if this group is suitable then feel free to contact us and we can chat about whether it is right for your child or not. The most important thing is that they enjoy being out in the sea, they will progress well if this is the case.
Do I have to complete a registration form if I filled one out last year?
Yes, you will have to complete a new registration form for 2023. You will only have to do this once for your first session, you will not have to complete another one for any additional sessions unless your circumstances change. We have one registration form this year for summer camps/may half term sessions and weekend kids club.
When are the sessions?
Please click on the link above to download the Saturday Surf Club timetable for 2022.
How do I book a space?
There will be a post on our facebook page ‘ Laneez surf centre’ at 6pm every Thursday for the following weekend session. The post will say something along the lines of ‘Comment below to sign up to our Saturday or sunday session this weekend’. You just need to comment on that post however many spaces you would like reserved. When we have a full group, the post will change to ‘FULLY BOOKED’. Please don’t leave a comment after this as we are unable to go above a certain group number of students.
How much does it cost and do you have to commit to all the sessions?
The cost is £20 per child per session and includes a board and wetsuit. If your child already has a board and wetsuit, it is still £20. This is a drop in session, if you want to try one session and find it is not for you, there is no pressure to regularly attend. On the other hand, if you would like to attend every week, you will need to comment on our facebook post every week on a Thursday to reserve a space. We cannot block book anyone to make it fair for everyone.
What do they need to bring with them?
They will need to bring their wetsuit and board if they wish to use their own. If they are using our wetsuits then it is recommended to arrive with swimwear on under clothes as we only have one changing room. Usually most of the children just use their towels / changing robes to get changed. Please, if possible, apply suncream before you arrive to give it chance to absorb into the skin as otherwise it may wash off in the sea. It’s important that they drink lot’s of water too. They will need a towel for changing and also dry clothes. If the children wish to arrive in their wetsuit, that is also fine.
For the first session they will also need to bring a completed registration form with them. They do not need to complete another one if they attend again unless there are any changes in circumstances as requested on the registration form.
What are the ages of children that attend?
The minimum age is 8 years old. Generally, we have children up to the age of 14 attending.
Who will look after the children, are the instructors qualified?
The children will be looked after by qualified surf instructors who are DBS checked and have experience in first aid. They are qualified in beach lifeguarding and surf coaching. The lead instructors have also undergone lead safeguarding training. If you want to know more about this then please let us know.
We are also certified by CEYS (childcare and early years service). This requires annual assessment of our procedures, staff and facilities.
What facilities will the children have access to?
We have a portaloo toilet and a changing room on site. There is only one changing room so it is recommended the children bring towels with them to change with.
What happens if they become unwell?
We will contact you immediately if your child becomes unwell and arrange for your child to be collected should they wish. We will use the contact details listed on the registration form to do this. In the case of an emergency, we will contact the emergency services. Staff are first aid trained and we also have lifeguards at hand who are highly experienced in first aid.
What happens if they are unable to surf because of the poor weather conditions?
If the beach is ‘red-flagged’ by the lifeguards on duty (usually due to storms / lightening / fog etc), or the instructors feel the conditions are too dangerous, the children will not partake in any water-based activities. We aim to cancel any sessions with at least 1 day notice. We will aim to give more notice but this will depend on the forecast. You will be informed on the facebook post if we have to cancel a session.
What equipment is included?
All equipment is included including wetsuits and surfboards. We have wetsuits for all sizes from XXS child to XXL adults. We also have surfboards for different abilities and conditions. If the children have their own wetsuits and surfboards, they are welcome to bring these with them to use or if they arrive and their own equipment isn’t suitable, we will recommend something different for them to use to suit their ability and the conditions.
What are the teaching ratio’s?
The maximum ratio we work to is 1 instructor to 8 students which is in line with the governing body guidance.
