Scott has been the co director of Laneez Surf School for the last 7 years, he does the majority of the heading up of the Laneez Kids surf camps and leads the intermediate and advanced coaching for both adults and kids at the school.
In his own words… “I came to surfing as a young adult at 21 years of age (now 36) and from my first time on a surfboard, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to surfing. In my travels I met an ex professional surfer in Crescent Head, Australia, who told me that ‘discovering surfing as an adult should be looked upon as a gift, because it means you wont ever take it for granted, like the gift you save till last under the christmas tree.
Since taking on Laneez, I discovered I have a great skill for working with young people, I put it down to my childlike sense of humour and the joy I feel seeing a kid get as excited about catching a wave as I feel when I surf. Most people imagine that being surrounded by a large group of excited kids everyday would be hard work but to me, it’s the opposite. To keep chasing our passions, we have worked hard to create a surf school where all feel welcome. Our aim is to make surfing accessible, removing the elitism and pretentiousness that can be an indimidating part of surf culture. It’s in essence, the surf school I wish I could have found when I took up surfing, fun and humble with the highest standard of technical coaching.

Grace has been co director of Laneez Surf School for the last 7 years with her brother Scott. Grace does all the organising, making sure everyone has what they need and will always be at the end of a phone call or an email to answer any of your questions, if not you’ll find her in the sea coaching.
In her own words… “I started surfing in my 20’s when my brother and I found ourselves in Newquay renting some surfboards for the afternoon. After being tossed around in the sea for 3 hours, not knowing what I was supposed to do and not catching a single wave, I was already hooked…
I get so much joy from watching the journey’s that people go through to pursue a love of just getting in the sea with their surfboard and giving it a go! Whether that be overcoming the obstacle of awkwardly trying to get a wetsuit on for the first time, building a confidence in deeper water or managing their first manoeuvre on a wave… it’s all part of the journey and I’m honoured to be part of it.
For me when I am teaching, my aim is to help people develop and simplify the steps and celebrate progress, If you’ve ever wanted to give it a go but maybe always felt a little intimidated or nervous to try, I’ll help you break down them barriers!

This is Kezia!!!
She says “I was lucky enough to be born in jersey so have always been brought up by the ocean and would spend most of my time kayaking, coastering, surfing and just being in the water. 🌊
I regained my love of surfing in lockdown and from then onwards got my RLSS Beach Life Guard and my ISA surf coach qualification. I’ve spent my last 4 summers working at Laneez Surf School and spent my winter working as a health care assistant. I have seen surfing change peoples lives; develop self- confidence and improve mental health. I am a massive believer of blue water therapy!” 🩵✨🩵✨🩵

Sophie says – ‘The sea has ALWAYS been a big part of my life, i was introduced to it as an actual baby with my dad and im always in it. Whether it’s surfing, swimming, paddle boarding, boogie boarding, I’ll find something to do in the ocean!’
Sophie trained at university in Musical Theatre with the dream to perform, and then recently qualified as a Drama and English teacher so I she put those skills to use in a local secondary school! In her “spare” time she writes plays, one of which has toured round primary schools. This was in collaboration with ArtsHouse Jersey and Jersey Coastguard educating children on the importance of beach and sea safety (something she’s super passionate about).

This is James!
He says “I love the outdoors and exercise in general. When not surfing in St Ouens you can find me in the gym or hanging out with my little brother. I am currently studying at University in the UK but I have spent my last few summers working as a Surf Instructor at Laneez since I undertook my Surf Instructor and Lifeguard qualification.”
James is super popular with the youngsters on our summer camps and you will often find him running impromptu press up competitions with any kids who think they can match him. James is super helpful and we are really excited to have him back on the team again this summer.

Dylan is possibly the funniest person anyone is ever likely to meet. He is a complete force of nature and kids on our summer camp instantly gravitate towards him. Some people are blessed with a gift for getting the best out of young people and Dylan is truly one of those people. He is currently studying at University in the UK but has spent the last few summers at Laneez mainly running our ever popular summer surf camps. When not working for Laneez, Dylan has his own fashion brand, which is actually a lot cooler than what we thought it would be when he first told us the idea!

Zac is a former kid from surf camp turned surf instructor at laneez. Scott and Grace can still remember his first week on summer camp where he went from being shy and unsure of himself to a confident young surfer who was popular with everyone! Zac will now be entering is his second season working as an instructor at Laneez and he is one of the most popular instructors with the youngsters on surf camp. Most of the graffiti that the kids like to write inside our shop relates to him in some way or another. We probably give him too much of a hard time but its born out of a deep affection. When not working you’ll find Zac in the surf during the summer and you can guarantee he will be the loudest smiliest surfer out there!

This is Arran –
Arran is a promising young talent in Jersey’s competitive surfing scene. Often on training and competition trips with the Jersey surf squad, he has an exciting future in surfing ahead of him. Arran completed his trident work experience with us a few year’s ago and we are delighted that he will be joining us this summer again as an instructor.

This is Naomi –
Naomi is the sunshine in all our days, she is likely to be the first person you meet when you arrive at the beach. She keeps the place running smoothly and adds a bunch of glamour to proceedings. Naomi came up through our Summer Surf Camps and loved it so much that she now spends her summers working with us down at the beach!

This is Isaac –
Isaac is a long time friend of laneez. He works full time at Healing Waves Ocean Therapy but on his days off you will often find him hanging out at Laneez. He is a great surfer who embodies everything we try to make our surf school about. If you dont find him in the ocean you can usually find him helping others in whatever way he can, he is a fantastic carpenter and makes sure our shop stays in working order throughout the seasons!

This is Otis –
Otis and his younger sisters have been a prominent part of Laneez Surf Camps for the last 6 years and we are delighted that Otis has recently undertaken his surf instructor and beach lifeguard qualification. He is an amazing young man with a bright future ahead of him and are very lucky that he enjoys hanging out at Laneez and wants to help us run our surf camps during the summer. Otis first came to summer camp with some friends and immediately took to the sport and has been around every summer since. Whilst he won’t yet be teaching private lessons he puts his qualifications to good use helping with our summer clubs and groups, mostly helping young surfers to get ‘out back’ to figure out their positioning and technique to catch unbroken waves.
